In May of 2013, the American Psychiatric Association intends to publish a fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.  In the new edition, the definition of autism will combine Autistic disorder, Asperger’s syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder, not otherwise specified, into one “autism spectrum disorders” cluster diagnosis.

The American Psychiatric Association is accepting public comment on the proposed change to the autism definition as a well as other changes to the DSM until June 12, 2012.  To view a detailed list of the proposed changes to the DSM and to submit comments, click on the following link www.dsm5.org
