On January 4, 2011, President Obama signed the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), a food safety bill, into law.  Incorporated in the act is the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Act (FAAMA).  Under FAAMA, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in conjunction with the Department of Education, will creat voluntary national feed allergy management guidelines to be used by school districts.  School districts that choose to adopt the voluntary management guidelines may be eligible to receive grants to support implementation of the guidelines.  Pursuant to the act, the guidelines must be developed and made available within one year of passage of the act.
